While you have a job, you have opportunities to use your skills and sharpening them. Or to improve your computer repair skills, you could come to the office on a weekend to repair some of your company's damaged computers.

FATAL MISTAKE 3 Did Not Put Money Aside for a Rainy Day'

How true it is because there will always be rainy days in your lifetime. And the bigger rainy days will be the months after you quit or lost your job. Most people make calls from their work phone, use company equipment (such as the company photocopier, laser printer, mobile phone, comb binder and computer) for personal purposes and the even luckier' ones get petrol and parking reimbursements.
When you no longer have these benefits, then you'll begin to realized how much money comes out of your pocket when you've to pay for them.
Put aside money while you're still receiving a paycheck. Don't wait until it's too late. It's much easier and less stressful to quit your job and to start something when you've adequate money in reserve.
FATAL MISTAKE 4 Did Not Have a Systematic Strategy for Developing People Assets'
People Assets' are defined here as your valuable contacts and relationships that can be leveraged to generate income.
A good source of valuable contacts is your job. Besides office colleagues, you'll get to meet customers, suppliers and service providers. Depending on your position in your organization, you may have the opportunity to attend seminars, travel overseas and participate in trade shows with more exposure to all kinds of people.
Outside your job, you'll also have many opportunities to meet people. In your neighbourhhood, religious organization, social club, PTA, your mechanic, hairdresser, plumber, former classmates, etc. etc.
Therefore it's not the lack of exposure that causes most people to fail to develop people assets.BUT most people fail to develop people assets' due to some of these reasons:
Sloppy with gathering and recording details of all the people met. (Details should include much more than just the person's name, contact details and company name. It should also include the contact's interests, spouse and children's names, favourite food, car he/she drives, etc. etc. Gathering these information is an ongoing process and requires a contact management tool).
Did not develop relationships due to unwillingness to invest time on new contacts (by having activities together like playing games, going for family outings, trips, get-togethers, drinks).
Did not take the opportunity to go the extra mile to help others while you had a job (and you were in a position to do so). The good feelings and goodwill that are generated from your acts of service are assets that you could cash in' as returned favours long after you're no longer in the company.
Your strategy is to convert as many of these contacts to people assets' as possible from a casual ("Hi" and "Bye") level to the F-Level (that is, the Friendship level) where both parties can mutually call upon each other at anytime for a conversation. From the F-Level nurture these people assets' to the Relationship level (or R-Level). At this level people will go out of their way to help each other. Finally, the highest level is the P-Level where people become business, social or life Partners with one another.
FATAL MISTAKE 5 Wasted Too Much Time on Unproductive Activities
When you have a good job especially one that pays you more than your total monthly expenses, it is very human to feel a sense of security. There is no urgency in your money situation. You tend to enjoy life'- indulging in all kinds of activities many of which are unproductive as far as money is concerned. These unproductive activities include such time wasters as
frequently hanging around entertainment joints (like pubs, night clubs, discotheques);
indulging in unhealthy vices (such as gambling);
talking, talking, talking with the same group of friends during working hours;
going for lunch with the usual clique instead of with different people to nurture new relationships. (Imagine going for lunch say 3 days a week for four years with the same people. This equates to over six hundred lunches. How many other people could you have spent those time with?);
talking on the phone for too long;

The key word here is moderation'. You are not expected to forego every little joy of life completely or to indulge only in actions with an ulterior motive. Life would be rather boring then.
Just remind yourself that time is limited and precious. Every person has 168 hours a week. What you do with these hours while you still have a job could impact your life when you don't have a job.
FATAL MISTAKE 6 Did Not Start and Develop a Parallel Career
A parallel career is here defined as something you do while you still have a job with the end goal of working for yourself. It's not merely a sideline, second income or part-time job. If you take on a sideline or a second job just to supplement your primary income and your end goal is NOT to change career...NOT to work for yourselfthen this sideline or second job is NOT a parallel career.
Many people who had left or lost their jobs look back with regret. They missed opportunities and made mistakes. This is what operates the law of attraction, for the reason that the laws of attraction and repulsion are entirely subconscious. Thoughts may be conscious to start with,reconsider and reevaluate. It's never too late to start over. It's good to take refuge and be alone, but they are subconscious as soon as they are put in motion. The subconscious mind is the seat of emotion and the database of memory, therefore memory is tied to emotion. Emotion is energy in motion. The more emotion a thought has, the more it is able to move matter. Weak thoughts have little emotion. Strong thoughts have much emotion.
The things we manifest in our life come from our subconscious beliefs rather than our conscious thinking. If we believe everything we think on is going to manifest in one form or another, we'll probably walk about terrified because most of us aren't thinking upbeat thoughts all the time,you might be a workaholic redneck.". If we have the idea that whenever we think a thought, it will create our reality, then we would most likely be afraid to think anything at all.
Emotion is energy in motion, therefore all movement is emotional. The subconscious mind as the seat of emotion is the operational aspect of the mind. All activity is carried out by the subconscious mind which is the creative faculty. The conscious mind merely directs and instructs, therefore the subconscious mind continually works in harmony with the conscious mind. The coming together of conscious and subconscious mind in order to manifest reality permanently involves the element of want and emotion.
A conscious thought only has effect when being consciously thought of. When the thought is intensified and galvanized with emotion, it generates enough momentum to continue flowing on its own and become perpetual. The thought becomes a memory and the subconscious programming that runs the entire mind. Every true belief is not just conscious but subconscious and is tied to emotion. A belief is a thought wrapped in the clothes of emotion.
Almost no one can maintain a conscious focus on anything for more than a few seconds. When you focus as fully as you possibly can on maintaining an image or thought in your mind, notice how long it takes before something else pops into your awareness. That something else is coming from your subconscious mind because it is always in motion.
Thus, it's crucial to ensure that your subconscious mind seizes the focus on your target since your conscious mind simply can't do it. When you emotionalize the thought instead, the parts of the brain that excel at maintaining focus, the frontal lobes, are energized in a way that maintains the necessary subconscious focus. The result is that, subconsciously, you keep your eyes on the prize, even when you're sleeping.
When your subconscious mind understands the message it receives, it takes root and becomes set in motion.
The thought becomes emotionalized, internalized and turns into a belief.
The fastest way to give yourself the beliefs to manifest the things you want is through hypnosis and NLP. There are numerous other ways and certainly there are methods yet to be discovered,1. For now though, in western culture,the best ways for us to install the subconscious beliefs that will continually have our minds focused on creating our wants is through hypnosis. When we get together with family

Celebrate Togetherness, Not Resentments
When we get together with family, especially during this hectic time of year, we often find old childhood hurts, feelings, and reactions popping up. We regress; we even lose some of our identity as independent adults. The end result is that a holiday that is supposed to be a celebration of gratitude, fellowship, and giving becomes an ordeal.
It doesn't have to be that way. Here are a few quick hints to help you enjoy, rather than suffer, through that holiday get-together:
Relax, and remember - it's about fellowship, connection, and fun, not about perfection.
Look for the positive side in everything,good looks and great relationships. However. There is always a positive side.
Don't say anything negative to or about anyone or anything. It won't help or change the situation, and will just make things worse.
Don't bring up politics, religion, or any other controversial topic that can lead to arguments.
Bring along some little thing (A photo? A piece of jewelry? An emergency stash of chocolate?) to remind you that you are successful, creative, resourceful,5815 Ugg Classic Tall Black Boots, and all grown up. And that you can act like it.
Limit your alcohol intake; it loosens tongues, ethics, and discretion.
When you're in a conversation, listen to what's being said instead of planning what you're going to say next. Focus your attention on the other person. (It's a coaching skill, but you can do it, too.)
Ask others about their lives; don't hog the floor. Dust off your curiosity. Ask open-ended questions.
If someone is hogging the attention, or the conversation, start a separate conversation with someone who's looking left out. Work to make them feel better. You'll feel better too.
If you're the host or hostess, plan, plan, plan! Do as much as you can ahead of time, even to setting the table. (You can do it as much as a week in advance, then just cover it with a bed sheet.) Ask your guests to bring a dish, or to help out in the kitchen. Giving people something to do is a great ice breaker and helps them feel included.
If you're a guest, offer to help,watch a heart warming family adventure movie! No matter what the host or hostess says, bring a little something: a small flower arrangement, after dinner candy (chocolate - of course - is always welcome, and mints are great), a bottle of wine. And don't forget the thank you note, handwritten, later! It may be a pain, but it will make your hosts feel wonderful.
Go around the table and ask everyone to say one thing they are thankful for. You might be surprised what comes up -- and it can start the meal off in a wonderful, positive direction.
Reminisce about the good times. I know there were some. How can you create more?
Consider planning or suggesting activities other than eating and drinking. Play touch football outside or go for a walk. Bring a board game (yes, it's un-cool) or work on a jigsaw puzzle. It's much more fun to be arguing about landing on Boardwalk than old, un-resolved family issues.
Finally, if you absolutely know it's going to be pure hell, don't go. You don't need the aggravation, and neither does anyone else. Make reservations instead of having them.

One thing is for certain, the cold hard truth is... we live in a world filled with constant change so better know Your Worth. It is inevitable and beyond our mortal comprehension. This is our Life Course!
Picture this out In just a turn of the century; we've gone from the teepee of the American Indian to the Empire State Building," "Why can't I lose weight. We've gone from Kitty Hawk to Mars! Let me add more to this brew of infinite wisdom, "The law of change is an immutable law". Tomorrow will bring change! Count on it. It is the Life Course.
Those people who use hindsight and refuse to believe and adapt to this will suffer the consequences. It's their own Life Business!

One woman I met still thinks a MOUSE PAD is Where Mickey and Minnie live! And ONLINE is where you're supposed stay when taking the field sobriety test! Listen up folks ... here's a big announcement ... it's the 21st century.
The most important aspect for life altering results isDiscipline. The most important point is quite simple ... change is not always easy! Regardless of your effort and profound enthusiasm if one key aspect for success is missing then you are not utilizing your full potential. Discipline is the key for successful people, corporation, and empires and is quite evident when it comes to military prowess. The steadfast might of the Roman Empire was due to their disciplined legions.
Change requires discipline! It's discipline ... not desire that determines your destiny!
For you to change, personal discipline will be required. It takes discipline to say No!" to your doubts when you're confronted with change.
If your desire is to grow personally and professionally, then you will have been willing to change. The proof of desire is in the pursuit itself. If you are not pursuing something ... there is no proof that you really desire or want it. The proof of your desire ... is in the pursuit of what you desire. Much courting a beautiful dame with youthful enthusiasm and reckless abandon to win her heart amidst the crowd of would be contenders.
If you really desire to change ... you must pursue it with all that is within you as Personal Mission! One of my favorite "Ebyisms" is "Change is a portal to success that can only be opened from the inside."
So... what is the first step? What will act as a catalyst to aid you to change? Change like so many other processes is modular. In other words, it is a gradual step-by-step process rather than an overnight success. In the world we live in most people have a "fast food" mentality. They want it RIGHT NOW! Real change is ongoing. But, the good news is there is a definite starting place! Work for your own Personal Good. Pace yourself and take it slowly but surely without over encumbrance otherwise your willpower and motivation will falter and ultimately you will end up where you started.
The process of change actually begins when you decide what you will allow into your mind for Personal Good. Your mind is the gateway of your new Life Course. It all actually starts by something as simple as changing your point of view. But how can you initiate such a journey? It's actually quite simple empty your pretensions and fill your cup with worthwhile knowledge! The old computer term "garbage in - garbage out" is a truism. Ancient scripture calls it renewing your mind. It's really just good old fashioned brain washing! Now I realize that term has developed a negative connotation... But look at it on a whole new perspective be on other end of the spectrum, start off by being optimistic and always look on the bright side to start your Personal Work on your new Life Course.
If you will constantly flood your mind with positive reinforcement ... renew it with affirmations that will condition your mind toward your desired change ... the journey has begun for another Life Course. You need to read or listen to every character building, motivational, educational book, CD, or DVD you can get your hands on.
Which is easier to memorize something with your mind or by heart? Metaphorically speaking of course, if you strongly believe on something with unparalleled conviction then you have taken it by heart. That comes about by meditating or consistently dwelling on what is being fed into your mind. You will live by it with the entire fiber of your being. When hindrances arise you will have something to fallback on, your beliefs and convictions! That's what the ancient text means when it says "as a man thinketh in his heart ,Do not trust them... so is he". Your thoughts will actually go way past the mental realm and into your inner man. Your actions are the manifestation of what is in your heart! Your very core being your persona.
So, it starts off with introspection. It progresses into the heart. And out of the abundance of the heart it will reverberate through your words and actions. What is inside of you will ultimately come out. As actions speak louder than words it is imminent, you cannot stop it. If you're filled with hatred and angst it will eventually come out. If you're filled with joy ... with positive attitudes your aura will reflect these traits It will flow out of your mouth. And as I have said earlier the tongue is a complex force.
So if you start to THINK the right things to happen for your Personal Good. ... You will begin to BELIEVE the right things ... you will begin to SAY the right things ... and you are destined for imminent change for the better. Your actions will line up with your thoughts, your beliefs, and your words! Change is all but a mere thought acted upon!

I wonder what's gonna hold for the Year of the Rabbit--2011. Apparently, with all the glorious and festive mood in celebrating New Year's Eve Countdown at Times Square, I still continued my mini-celebration alone by cleaning my room. Yes, you heard it right, ladies and gentlemen; I celebrated by cleaning my beloved cute room.
Yes, time to wash away and sweep the clouds of regrets, pain, hurt, anger, heartache, resentments and bitterness of the year that was. As I look back in the year that was, 2010 was indeed such a maturing, tumultuous and definitely a learning experience for me.
2010 was a time filled with new experiences, lessons to be learned, and a whole lot of new emotions and experiences to get used to: from grief (the passing of someone very dear to me), to new love and breakup (yes, all in one year, folks), new friendships, new skills, family sickness--whew! Boy, I'm glad I survived through it all and enjoyed some of its fun moments. The joy, the pain, the hurt, the sadness and especially the happiness...aaahhh so long, 2010,you won't be reading the whole of El Pais, welcome aboard 2011,but the rest of it just isn't worth it.!
This year, I see life with childlike curiosity and wonder,5815 Ugg Classic Tall Black Boots. I open my senses on the first day of the the 2010, I opened my windows and greeted the world "Hello" with enthusiasm.

And if you believe that you agree with the latter and you've been searching in all the wrong places, I agree that indeed, it could be disappointing and a frustration. Okay, here are some of the tips on how to go about in our never-ending quest for finding happiness. 1. Begin to define what happiness is for you. Yes, since being happy is such a personal thing to begin with, we all have our own perception of what being happy is all about. People all over the world have their own varying notions and definitions of what makes them happy or fulfilled.
That's why learn not to get caught up or be swayed by what others' standards of finding happiness is all about. Today's society and the media may dictate finding happiness in this and there, in some material things and possessions and whatever, but in the end,An Uncommon Journey of Spirit, finding happiness is your own business.
Remember that what makes other people happy may not be the same for you. Try writing down what's your definition of being happy is, so it becomes clear to you,then she is unworthy and unlovable. Therefore. 2. Begin to explore your passions and whatever that makes you glad. Think about it—you can't truly be happy if you're doing something that you hate, right? Now is the time to have that change in your life and have that zest for living, for life is too short to be unhappy.
You can just see or observe from enthusiastic people you know; they live their life to the fullest because they live their passions in life. So start discovering that joyful feeling within and it will eventually manifest itself outside. 3. Also, help other people in their own journey for finding happiness.
Question: have you tried remembering that time when you helped another person? And how did you feel back then-- great, inspired, amazing isn't it? Coincidentally, I met a friend recently and told me that she was at her happiest when she helped someone else. Remembered the movie "Pay It Forward"? I haven't watch it yet but I read its reviews and it's like a "helping cycle"—helping you to help others and others helping other people as well.
You see, it's like this overflowing energy inside you that you created such an impact on the lives of others or you assist them in their needs. It's validating that you're a nice human being and you just don't live here by yourself and people can rely on you. And inspiring others in finding happiness in life, is for me the greatest validation that any person can have in his lifetime! I recalled a scene in the movie "As Good As It Gets", Helen Hunt is asking Jack Nicholson that she needs a compliment, quick! Jack Nicholson just stared squarely at her and said, "You make me wanna be a batter man." Greatest compliment a person can ever receive.

Clarify Current View Where are you now- honestly?
Conscious awareness of your current view is the first step in becoming the best you can be. Getting clear about how your life aligns with your values, talents and unique gifts is vital to your happiness. You need to know where you are in order to learn where you want to go.
You can clarify your current view by completing a review of eight life areas. Be honest with yourself about how happy are you with your profession, finances, health and overall well-being, primary relationships, personal development, spirituality, environment, hobbies, etc.
Two
Connect with Your Highest Vision Where do you want to be?
Example: A client of mine, a yoga instructor, decided she was happy teaching but wanted to contribute to the world on a larger level. She wasn't happy with the quality of the yoga clothing that was accessible to her and her fellow yogis. Her vision was to design and create fun, hip and timeless yoga clothes using eco-conscious fabrics.
You have to get really clear about what you want. It is crucial that you connect to your highest vision of yourself because you can't create it unless you are clear about what it looks like. If you don't have a vision of where you want to go or what you want to be, you will most likely NOT get there. To quote Henrietta Klauser, "If you have a connection to what you want, take the next step and write it down." If you don't have any idea about what you want, or how you want to be in life to bring about greater happiness, begin looking through magazines and create a Vision Board/Collage of what attracts you. You may also want to consider getting an outside perspective from a friend or a professional coach. I take my clients through a guided imagery that gives them a glimpse of what their future could look like. There are also books that can help guide you. Just get help assessing your talents, divine gifts and abilities and then determine how you want to use them more fully in the world. We can't help others as fully,you are invited to join more than 5, if we are not aware of how we can best serve. So instead of thinking of it as selfish to engage in knowing yourself better, I would suggest you consider it selfish to hold back and not be the best you can be. Only in this way, can we help the world and others,then get very familiar with what you do want..

Create Inspiring Goals How will you get there?
Example: My client created a tiered plan of what needed to happen step by step outer goal. All of this was influenced by her inner goal of keeping a measured pace and a balanced life. Her goal was to enjoy the process.
You have to create a plan and take specific actions to get you from where you are now to where you want to be. When most people write goals, they just write a list of action steps, usually external actions. I believe it is more powerful to have inner and outer goals. An outer goal is what you want. For instance, you might think, "I want a new house". An inner goal is more focused on the how. How will a new home benefit me and my family,5815 Ugg Classic Tall Black Boots? Will it offer more common gathering areas, a larger kitchen so that we can cook together, etc.? How can I appreciate what I have now until I get this home? How can I make this a joyful experience rather than a stressful one? If you can not be grateful for what you have now, then when you get a new home, it will only create very short-term happiness for you. Then, you will be focused on the next external illusion of happiness. For 2008, I suggest taking at least three of the life areas I mentioned earlier and jot down how you couldbenefit from living your highest vision in each area. Next, add action steps toward your desired achievements along with completion dates.

Clear Obstacles How will you remove obstacles in your way?
We all have dreams and visions for our life, but frankly, there are many things that can get in the way. The two most common obstacles I see with my clients are:
The inability to say NO— In order to bridge the gap from your current view to your highest vision, you have to make room for what "Could Be". If your life is full and you want to add more of the things that are truly important in your life, you should start the change process by making room first. You must say no to some things in your life, so you can say yes to what is most important. You have to give up the destructive habits, behaviors and activities to make room for new ones.
A metaphor would be a water hose watering a flowering plant. The water in the hose is your life force and the flowering plant is what you are trying to grow in your life. If the water hose has leaks, it will not have enough water or life force/energy to reach its desired outcome or vision (to grow the plant into full bloom). Examples of leaks might include toxic friendships, unrealistic expectations, watching too much television, eating sugar, overspending, negative relational patterns with your spouse or working on an outdated job.
Example: A client's obstacle here was that her 8- year-old daughter needed caring for and she was afraid she wouldn't be able to be a good mother plus jumpstart a successful, new business. We remedied this issue by getting clear on the proper definition of a good mother. Also, practically speaking, she needed help picking up her daughter from school. So she got her husband to assist her in this area so she would have time to create this new business.
Negative self-talk—Research shows we have approximately 50,000 internal messages we say to ourselves daily. We are constantly walking around having conversations with ourselves. And it is what we say that makes all the difference in the overall quality of our lives.
Example: I was once in Starbucks, and I watched this woman spill her coffee while reaching for a sugar packet and I heard her say out loud, "I'm so stupid. I can't believe I did that."
Now, I just happen to hear her, but this is an example of something you might say internally as well,the speaker becomes self-conscious.. You might think, "No big deal. I say things like this to myself all the time." Well, IT IS A BIG DEAL as our subconscious hears these messages and acts on them as if they were real. Don't say anything to yourself that you wouldn't want someone else saying to you.
Think of self-talk like mental fuel. Now, imagine filling your car with dirty water. We all know you wouldn't get very far. Now, take that same car and fill it with high quality gasoline. You'll most likely reach your destination. It is the same with people and the words we use. If the words are negative and toxic, we will sputter along with low energy and our performance suffers. If our words are positive and tender, we will feel confident, energized, encouraged and will most likely meet our goals faster and easier. Here are some key things to remember if you ever find yourself preparing to board the train of BAD self-talk:
Bstands for belittling self-talk. Stop telling yourself, "I am not good enough." If your dream is to have a healthy self-confidence, which of the following examples is more likely to get your there:
A. "I'm so stupid. I can't believe I did that."
B. "Whoops, mistakes happen."
Can you see how the Answer B is much kinder?
A stands for awfulizing. Stop predicting a future filled with gloom and doom, and dwelling on scary thoughts. If you dream of obtaining a career you love, which of the following will move you closer to your vision:
A. "I did terribly on my interview, I'll never find a job I like."
B. "I will answer that question on past employment differently next time and I will ace it! I know I will one day have the job I love."
Can you see how Answer B places you in the mindset of a successful job search?
D stands for deceiving. This is when you deceive yourself into thinking you are a victim, and that other people are to blame for your circumstances. If we want a happy relationship which will of the below responses will aid in achieving this goal:
A. "If my spouse would only do more around the house, then I would be happy."
B. "I can and will choose happiness today, no matter what my spouse does."
Answer B is the right choice, wouldn't you agree?
S stands for shoulding This is when you give yourself a lot of shoulds, musts, and ought tos, then beat yourself up for not living up to unrealistic standards. Say your dream is to be in top physical condition, which will further that:
A. "I should have eaten a salad for lunch instead of that big ol' hamburger. I'm such a pig!"
B. "I could have eaten a salad, but I chose not to. Tomorrow I will make healthier choices."
The second choice is so much more inspiring, don't you think?

Commit to Action Are you willing to do what it takes?
The final step of the 5 C Process is to commit to action. How many times have we all made plans and never carried them out, or started off excited and lost motivation? No one ever does anything great alone. We all need encouragement and support from others including an accountability partner who is willing to help hold the vision of the person you want to be. In the previous example of my client, her biggest negative self-talk was how to be a good mom and a good business woman. Her thoughts were, "If I don't pick up my child every day from school, I am a bad mother." Instead, we replaced it with, "Picking up my child from school daily is not what makes me a good mother. I am, indeed, a fabulous mother."
Here are the four action steps that have been proven to help you eliminate your negative self talk:
Become aware of your negative messageslisten to voice in head
Stop! You have to stop immediately if you find yourself dwelling on any negative thoughts
Replace negative thoughts with a kinder alternatives
Practice. It takes a commitment of time in order to turn a pattern of negative thinking into a more positive train of thought.

"He doesn't have any friends. I'd like to spend more time with him but there doesn't seem to be anything he likes to do."
"How does he spend his time?" I asked.
"Playing video games."
Betsy consulted with me because she was concerned about her husband's lack of motivation.
"Every night he plays video games for hours and then is too tired the next day to do a good job at work. I'm afraid he is going to lose his job, but he gets angry at me if I say anything to him about it."
Carolyn consulted with me because of her concern over her sons,I would love an article that differentiates between being needy and having needs.".
"After graduating high school, Brandon did a semester of college and then dropped out. Matthew graduated last year and has been doing some odd jobs, but neither of them seem motivated to do much of anything."
"How do they spend their time?"
"They sleep in and then play video games."
A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that 45 percent of the population of people between the ages of 19 and 90 are video game players, with an average age of 35.
According to the study,5815 Ugg Classic Tall Black Boots, "Video games might be regarded as an obsession for youngsters but in fact the average player is aged 35, often overweight, introverted and may be depressed." 56% of the video game players were men. The research suggested that "video gaming for adults may be a form of 'digital self-medication.'"
Is this really any different than using alcohol, drugs, food, TV, or any other activity to avoid feelings and taking responsibility for one's feelings? Obviously, playing video games has become a huge addictive activity in our society.
While the average age of video game players is 35, it is unlikely that they started playing at age 35. Probably, like Ed and Carolyn's children, they started in adolescence and never stopped.
Playing video games is an easy way of avoiding fears, especially fears of rejection,Breathe In, engulfment, and failure. One researcher stated that "adult video game players may 'sacrifice real-world social activities to play video games.'"
As I explored with both Ed and Carolyn, it became apparent that both of them were role modeling addictive behavior for their children. Ed would spend his downtime watching TV and drinking beer, while Carolyn used food to avoid her feelings. Although neither Ed or Carolyn played video games, this is likely because video games were not around when they were younger so they got addicted to other things. But neither Ed nor Carolyn were showing their children by their own behavior how to take responsibility for their own feelings.
I worked with both Ed and Carolyn on learning to take loving care of themselves and on how to interact with their children in ways that encouraged them to begin to take loving action for themselves. Gradually the parents and the children began to take steps toward letting go of their various addictions.
Fortunately, Betsy's husband was willing to join her in phone sessions with me. In dealing with his fears of rejection and failure that were behind his addiction to video games, he became willing to limit his video game playing to 1 hour each evening,real security.
All addictions are ways of avoiding the feelings that you believe you can't manage. It is unrealistic to think that you will just stop your addictions if you haven't learned to take responsibility for creating many of your painful feelings with your own self-abandonment, and you haven't learned to lovingly nurture the challenging feelings of loneliness, heartache, and heartbreak that are a part of life.

Quadrant 2 Principles,and as we do so
Stephen Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, had a real impact on my life. In fact, I always recommend it to people who attend my Personal Development workshops. When my boss read it, however, his first comment to me was that there was something missing - his problem was that he didn't see how you get from the theory to the practice.
There is no doubt that the principles outlined in the book are fundamental truths, indeed they were even known to Aristotle. He said that there are three basic steps that you must take to get what you want out of life.
Understand that you Can achieve Success
Define what Success represents, for You
Organise you life around its Achievement
And he was absolutely right. Don't under-estimate the value of these simple steps because here you have the ultimate success formula. It is the secret that everyone who has ever been successful, in any field of endeavour, has used.
In his follow-up book,and the more we take loving action for ourselves and with others, First Things First - the definitive work on Time Management - Stephen Covey explains that most people are driven by the concept of urgency. But to really effect positive change in our lives, we need to reorganise the way we spend our time; based on the concept of importance - not urgency. For most people, the problem is that we are continually doing the urgent stuff, at the expense of the important.
The results of properly dedicating ourselves to the important (what Covey calls 'Quadrant 2') activity are that we will gain control over what is happening in our lives: we will thereby reduce the time we spend being driven by the concept of urgency. Time for 'Quadrant 2' activity,5815 Ugg Classic Tall Black Boots, of course,I ran out of stamps, must come from elsewhere. It must come from saying 'no' to some of the urgent stuff!
But how do you go about defining what is Important; and what is it, in your daily life, that you do differently to produce the product you want? These were the questions my boss wanted answered. It was for this reason that I wrote two complementary resources - my book The Deepest Desire of Your Heart; and a time-management tool for applying Quadrant-2 principles - which I call the 4tm Spreadsheet.
